| Shift Premium |
As per Article 7.5 of the Support Staff Collective Agreement, the College shall pay a shift premium to employees whose regular hours of work fall into the following periods:
-
Employees shall be paid $0.60 per hour in addition to their regular wage for regular hours worked between 5pm and midnight.
-
Employees shall be paid $0.75 per hours in addition to their regular wage for regular hours worked between midnight and 6am.
Where more than 50% of the hours worked fall into a premium period, the premium shall be paid for the duration of the entire shift.
Example:
Employee X works a regularly scheduled shift between 12 noon and 8pm. This employee is currently at Step 4 of Payband 8, being paid an hourly wage of $21.55 per hour (effective Sept 1, 2004).
- Hours Subject to Shift Premium = 3 (5-8pm)
- Hours Not Subject to Shift Premium = 5 (noon-5pm)
- Wages = (8 x $21.55) + (3 x $0.60) = $174.20
- Because 50% or less of Employee X's shift fell during the premium period, this employee is not entitled to receive the premium pay for the full shift.
