Programs & Courses - Co-operative Education

Co-operative Education is a partnership between the College, an Employer, and you. Co-op education is an option you can pursue in specified programs that lets you gain practical work experience by combining formal academic training at the College with paid work experience at a co-operative employer organization.

How does it work?

When you choose the co-op option in a program, you generally alternate study terms with 16-week paid work terms. Work/study periods vary for each program. Students will be required to pay a registration fee.

The College Co-op Department coordinates all work term activities, from your job application to your actual contract with an employer. The Department recruits the participation of employers; posts work term opportunities; submits your resume to companies for their review and selection; and arranges interviews, on or off campus. Based on these interviews and a ranking process, you are then matched with an employer. All work term opportunities are approved by faculty and the Co-op Department to ensure that the work assignment meets the established program guidelines, and Department representatives follow-up during your work term.

Are International Students Eligible for Co-op programs?

International students may apply for the co-op option in their program of study if they meet the admission requirements. Students are expected to maintain a good academic standing in their program in order to be considered for co-op.

International students who wish to participate in the co-op programs, must obtain a Social Insurance Number (SIN) from the nearest Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) centre, and a work visa from Canada Immigration in Vegreville, Alberta permitting them to work as a co-op student.
