Going abroad to work or study is an excellent opportunity to gain new skills, broaden your horizons, and experience a new culture. During this exciting time, you’ll want to make sure you have the funds available to support yourself. Between flights, tuition, accommodations, living expenses, sightseeing, and souvenirs, the costs can add up quickly. But don’t fret – there are several options available to you to help fund your trip! Check out the information below for more information and be sure to apply early!
Go Abroad with an International Experience Travel Award
This award is designed for current, Canadian citizen or permanent resident Algonquin College students who will be participating in a study or work integrated experience outside of Canada or the United States.
Funding is available for international education or work experiences that take place anytime during the student’s program of studies and for travel completed before graduation. This includes:
- International education opportunities, including faculty-led international education experiences and individual study abroad experiences; and,
- International paid or volunteer work experiences with profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Please note: Funding is not guaranteed. Students must be receiving an academic credit for their international experience or participating in an Algonquin sponsored activity. If there are more applicants than there is funding, preference may be given to students with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Award Value
| 1 – 8 days* international placement | $350 |
| 9 – 30 days* international placement | $600 |
| 31 – 48 day* international placement | $1000 |
| 49 days* or more international placement | $1500 |
* Number of days indicates the time frame from the start date until the end date of your international experience. This should be indicated on a letter from your host organization, company or school. This does not include any travel to, from, before or after the confirmed experience abroad.
