College Surveys

The Institutional Research and Planning department oversees a number of college-wide student surveys throughout the year including the:

First Year Student Survey:

Conducted bi-annually during the Fall semester, the FYS Survey collects demographic, market, educational and other background data from students that are not available from other sources. The next FYS Survey will be conducted in November, 2007.

Ontario College Student Engagement Survey:

If students are actively engaged with college faculty and staff, with other students, and with the subject matter they study, the more likely they are to learn and eventually graduate. Student engagement studies such as those presently underway in the Ontario College system, assess the degree of interaction fostered by an institution and the quality of a college's educational practices.

In September, 2007, nearly 3,000 Algonquin students participated in the OCSE survey. In November, 2007, they and other students will be asked to continue with the survey by identifying the degree of interaction – engagement – they have achieved with Algonquin College and the programs and services it provides.

Preliminary results will be released in early 2008. In the interim, you are encouraged to review the report of the Pan-Canadian Study of First Year College Students – Report 1 – Students Characteristics and the College Experience.

KPI Student Satisfaction Survey

Conducted in November and February of each year, more than 7,000 Algonquin students are given the opportunity to influence the direction and priorities of college programs, services and facilities.
