| Algonquin College - Using FTP with Windows XP and Internet Explorer 7 |
|
|
| Internet Options |
The first thing we must do is to enable non-passive ftp browsing via Internet Explorer's Internet
Options. To start, open Internet Explorer and click on Tools in the menu and then choose Internet Options.
At this point we are presented with a smaller window which allows us to make some changes to the Internet
Options. First, click on the Advanced tab (furthest to the right). Then, scroll down until you see:
- Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)
Make sure to remove the checkmark as shown in the screenshot.
|
| Windows Explorer |
It is now safe to close Internet Explorer if you no longer need it. What we need to do now is to
right-click on the start button (bottom left) and choose the option Explore. This will
open Windows Explorer.
Now that we have Windows Explorer open, we must enter the ftp address in the Address
box at the top. Delete everything in that box and enter:
- ftp://ftp.algonquinstudents.com
Then press enter on the keyboard.
You should now see the login screen. Here we simply enter the same username and password as we
would if we were logging into the Control Panel on the web. After entering the information, click on
the Log On button.
We have now logged into the FTP server. The main website is located in the wwwroot folder so just
double click it to open it up. Any files dragged into this folder will appear on your website.
