Communication Suite Refresh

Suite Refresh and your Blackberry                specs    faq    glossary

PDAs play a special role with the Exchange implementation. Most of us have seen the Blackberries and similar devices but with the new Exchange implementation the PDA will be synchronized to the mail system. This means that it will have the same contacts, meetings, email, etc as your College desktop which will run OWA or Outlook .

Terms of Use Document

Along with the Microsoft Exchange migration, a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) has also been installed and is ready for use with Exchange. Once your Blackberry is configured for use with Exchange you will be able to:

The Configuration Process
In order for your Blackberry to work on the BES, the following will need to happen:

Depending on how your email is currently configured, your emails may also disappear

Authentication

A policy exists which will require a person to log onto the PDA after 10 minutes of inactivity. Sort of like a screen save password.

Activating your PDA to BES

In order to be activated there are two steps. First, ITS must add your device to our BES network. Second, there a few short steps to be performed on the device itself to add it to the BES network. Contact ITS to arrange activation.

Please be advised that the following support structure has been established to define what support we offer to PDA users and to clarify who are supported College PDA users.

In order to have an account created on BES:

  • The PDA user must have an Exchange account
  • The Blackberry was purchased by Algonquin College
  • The Data Plan is paid for / managed by Algonquin College
    (Exception à Students Association)
  • PDA must

Algonquin Network

BES PDAs act as though using VPN at all times have access to all College services. It is as though you are on campus at all times. You can get all College services.
