| Tasks are considered to be to-do lists. Just about anything can be tasks. They can be items that need to be done at work (normal duties or special projects that were assigned to you) or personal tasks like paying bills, a reminder to get groceries, etc. |

| Accessing Tasks |
- Launch Microsoft Outlook 2003
- Depending on how you have customized Outlook, click on either the Tasks button (see Figure 117) or the Tasks icon in the Navigation Pane

| Creating a New Task |
- In your Tasks interface, click on the New button in the Standard Toolbar (see Figure 120)

Note: If you clicked on the down arrow beside the New button, click on Task to create a new Task
- A new Task window opens (see Figure 121)

- Type the name of the Task in the Subject: field (see Figure 122)
- Use the down arrows beside the Due date: and Start date: fields to select the Task’s due date and start date – this is optional (see Figure 122)

- Enter the Task’s details in the main text box (see Figure 122)
- Click the down arrow beside the Status: field to select the status of the Task (See Figure 123)

- Select the Task’s priority to Low, Normal, or High (see Figure 124)
- Select the percentage of completion (see Figure 124)
- Decide whether or not you want to be reminded of when the Task is due and select how far in advance you want to receive a notice (see Figure 124)

- When you are finished, click on Save and Close in the Standard Toolbar (see Figure 125)

- The Task window will close and the Task will be added to your Task List

| Modifying a Task |
- In the Tasks List, right-click on the Task you want to modify (see Figure 126)

- That Task’s window opens
- Modify or update the information regarding that Task
- When you are finished, click on the Save and Close button on the Standard Toolbar

| Sending a Status Report about a Task |
If someone wants to know where you are on a specific Task, you can send them a status report on that Task:
- In your Tasks interface, right-click on the Task you want to send a status on (see Figure 127)

- Select Open in the menu (see Figure 127)
- That Task’s window will open
- Click on the Send Status Report button on the Standard Toolbar (see Figure 128)

- An email window will open with details of the Task (see Figure 129)

- Fill in the email address of the person you want to send the email to (Click the To.. button to send it to someone in your Personal Contacts, or the Check Names button to send it to someone in the Global Address List)
- Enter any comments about the Task in the main textbox
- Click Send in the Standard Toolbar to send the Task

| Marking the Task as complete |
- In your Tasks List, right-click on the completed Task
- That Task’s window will open
- Click on the Mark Complete button on the Standard Toolbar (see Figure 130)

- That Task’s window will close and the Task will be crossed out in your Tasks List (see Figure 131)

Note: A completed Task will not automatically be deleted. It will remain in your Task List until you delete it. |

| Deleting a Task |
- In the Task interface, right-click on the Task you want to delete
- Select the delete button in the menu (see Figure 132)

- That task will now be removed from your Tasks List
