| Download the VPN Client |
- The Cisco systems VPN Client program will allow you to connect to the Algonquin computer network from any other internet service provider. It encrypts all traffic to and from your computer and allows you to access Algonquin network resources just like you were in the college computer labs.
- Download the VPN Client for your operating system below :
- Download the Cisco VPN Client for Windows For Woodroffe/Pembroke Users ( Version 4.8)
- Download the Cisco VPN Client for Windows 98/ME.
- Download the Cisco VPN Client for Linux. (ITS Does not support Linux)
- Download the Cisco VPN Client for Mac OS X 10.2 - 10.3 or Mac OS X 10.4. (ITS Does not support Mac OS)
- Download the Cisco VPN Client for Windows For PERTH Users and the PCF
- Download the Cisco VPN Client for Windows VISTA and the PCF. Please see Windows Vista intructions below for more details.
- Installation Instructions for Windows Based computers:
- Save the client to your hard drive and double click on the file you downloaded to start the install.
- Once the VPN Client is installed and you have rebooted your computer you run the program by:
- Clicking START > Programs > Cisco Systems VPN Client > VPN Client
- The VPN Client program will open,
- start your VPN session by clicking on "connect".
- Follow the instructions to enter your network username and password.
- You are now connected to the college network and can now send email, map your n-drive, upload to you academic account, access GeneSIS or do anything that requires you to be on the college network.
- Installation Instructions for Windows Vista:
- Save the client to your hard drive in the same manner as described above.
- At the same time, Right-Click the PCF file above (or here) and choose to Save Target As...
- When the save dialogue comes up, choose a location to save the file. The best option is to save it to your Desktop as it will be easy to locate when we need it.
- Once this file has been saved, we need to install the Client. Browse to the location in which you saved it (the file name is: vpnclient-win-msi-5.0.00.0090-k9-beta.exe) and double click it. This will start the installation process.
- Continue to install the Client by choosing Next or Continue when prompted. Once the installation has finished it will ask you to restart the computer, please do so.
- The next step is to run the VPN Client and to add the Algonquin file (the PCF file we downloaded earlier). To do this, go to
- Start (or
)->All Programs->Cisco Systems VPN Client->VPN Client.
- This will open the VPN Client. Now we need to import the PCF file. To do this, simply click on the Import button at the top of the client and browse to the location in which you saved the file (file name: algonquin.pcf) and choose Ok.
- You will now notice that there is an option in the previously blank window which reads Algonquin. Simply double click this or highlight it and click Connect to start the VPN session.
- If you get a Windows Hardware Quality Labs warning(s) when installing the VPN on Windows 2000 or XP you MUST click on "Continue Anyway" to install the VPN, click HERE for more information on this.
- Your home router must allow IPSEC passthru for the VPN to work, for more information try here or here or here or try here for help with Linux and iptables.
(ITS will not assist with configuring your home router)
