Algonquin WebVPN

Algonquin WebVPN
 
AnyConnect WebVPN allows you to connect to the Algonquin VPN network using your web browser instead of having to download and install a separate client program. The WebVPN works with any operating system and it can only be used outside the college.

Select:           Install WebVPN         or        Use WebVPN         or        Uninstall WebVPN

Install WebVPN AnyConnect

If this is the first time you are using the Algonquin WebVPN service then there are a few steps you may have to perform before being able to connect. If you have used it before you can go straight to Using WebVPN.

Step One: Click on this link to download the WebVPN AnyConnect utility. Save it to your decktop

Step Two: Double click it to install the utility.

Click Next

Accept the terms and click Next

Click Install

Wait until you get the dialog box indicating it is done and click Finish

Step Three: The first time you run this you may have to enter basic information - only once.

     Then enter your username as "woodroffe/<username>"

Use WebVPN AnyConnect

Step One: After WebVPN is installed you may use it at any point by going to the web site and logging in.

(Note that this link will not work inside the College).

Step Two: If successful you will see a couple of status screens and then a final connection screen in your browser. You may close this screen, it is not required for the session to run.

Note: If this method of starting Webvpn has difficulty then just go to:  StartMenu...Programs...Cisco...CiscoAnyconnect and manually run "CiscoAnyconnect"

Managing your WebVPN session:

You should disconnect from WebVPN when you are finished using the college services so that your system is performing at maximum speed and the VPN slot is released for the next person.

trayred This icon in the system tray beside the clock indicates the you have an active WebVPN session running.

If you right click on the tray icon you have the option of quitting WebVPN or simply closing the session without closing the program. If you Disconnect or choose Open you will see this screen below which allows you to reconnect later.. Notice the address of the Algonquin WebVPN server. trayopen

session There is a five hours connection limit but you may reconnect immediately if you are disconnected. And an idle timeout which disconnects you if you are not using it.

 

WebVPN Notes:

  • It may be referred to as Algvpn, WebVPN or AnyConnect but it is all the same.
  • The WebVPN works with any operating system
  • The system has a maximum of 500 connections.
  • WebVPN can only be used outside the college.
  • You do not need to run it for blackboard, Webmail or student ACSIS but you do need it for most other college systems.

Uninstall WebVPN AnyConnect

Step One:

Run Control Panel, then got to Programs and run Add or Remove Programs. (This sequence may vary slightly for you depending on your Windows settings.)

Step Two:

Select Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client, (the version may not match) then click Change/Remove and follow the prompts. This program will disappear from the list when it is uninstalled.
