64 Bit Windows Support
The PCounter printing system does not support a 64 bit Operating system. This may change in Fall '09.
What?
If the version of your laptop operating system(Windows?) is XP 64bit or Vista 64bit you will not be able to print in the labs. The 64bit refers to a capability of that version. 64 bits carry more information than 32 bits and therefore is faster. Most Algonquin systems are 32bit.
The pcounter system is 32bit so it does not communicate with a 64bit systems. So you can not load or use the wireless printer drivers or even use it through an ethernet cable in the labs.
How do I know what I have?
You know you have a 64bit operating system if:
Your purchase invoice specifies a 64bit operating system.
You have 4Gig of ram and can see and use all 4Gig. 32bit only sees 3Gig.
You right-click MyComputer, click Properties and see that the General tab refers to a 64bit system.
What Can I Do About It?
- You can get a 32bit operating system loaded.
- Or copy the file to be printed from your laptop hard drive to your N drive and then print from a computer in a lab or office.
ITS is investigating system upgrades to resolve this issue.
