Voicemail Support FAQ

Q. Will I lose all my saved voicemails after the migration occurs?

A. YES, all stored voicemails will be deleted during the migration. You are able to backup all your voicemails. Please visit the ITS website with detailed instructions.
http://www.algonquincollege.com/its/support/telephone/voicemail/index-voicemail.htm

Q. Why can’t I login to my voicemail after the migration to Exchange?

A. After the migration, your voicemail password was reset. You have the ability to change your own password by going to https://voicemail.algonquincollege.com/ciscopca/logon.do. First time users will have to install an ActiveX control. You will be prompted at the top of the browser.

Q. I had re-direction tree options on my voicemail, how do I set those?

A. If your voicemail had redirection options (Press ‘1’ for ...) then the secretary will need to contact ITS at extension 5555. We will need to put in a work order.

Q. Why do I see my voicemail in my email?

A. This is a new feature of Unity-5. It syncs with Microsoft Exchange and sends you emails when voicemails are recorded.

The attachment ‘VoiceMessage.wav” is the actual voice message. You can click on it and open it with a default player or save it to the local computer. NOTE: When using OWA/OWA Light, you will need speakers to listen to the audio. For Outlook users, you can download and install the Cisco Applet that lets you play it on your phone or speakers.

Q. How can I listen / record voicemail within Outlook?

A. There are a couple of steps:

  • You will need to download the Cisco applet which interfaces with your outlook.
    www.algonquincollege.com/its/support/exchange/docs/CiscoUnity.VM07.0.2.exe
  • Once the applet is installed, when you open an email with a voicemail attachment, you will see an interface which will allow you to play your voicemail.

    10
  • With this same applet, you can record voicemail as well when replying or sending a voicemail email.

    12
  • By default, the phone will be used to record / playback voicemail message. Options can be set for microphone and speakers.

Q. How will voicemail emails affect the Cisco IP Phone notification light?

A. In these ways:

  • When listening to the voicemails within email (including Blackberry BES), Exchange will signal the Unity-5 server the message was read. When all voicemail have been read in email, the notification light will turn off.

  • When you mark emails with voicemails UNREAD, this will signal the Unity-5 server that message is new again, and will turn on the notification light.

  • Regardless what folders the voicemail emails are moved to, it will still communicate with Unity-5 and control the notification light depending on read status of the email.

  • If you delete a voicemail email, the corresponding voicemail message itself will also delete from the Unity-5 server.

Q. When I dial extension 4000, I see 1400 on my screen?

A. The extension has been changed to 1400; or just say "Voicemail" to be transfered.

Q. What happens to the actual voicemail when I delete it from email?

A. Exchange will communicate with the Unity-5 server, and delete your actual message. NOTE: voicemail emails deleted from Blackberry BES are excluded.

Q. Can deleted voicemails be restored?

A. Yes, please contact ITS Service Desk at extension 5555 for assistance. A work order will be required for this request.

Q. Is there a quota for voicemails?

A. Yes there is. Currently you are allocated 1GB for your email and voicemail combined. You can contact ITS Service Desk at extension 5555 if additional quota is needed. A work order will be required for this request.

Q. Can I forward my voicemail to another client?

A. Yes you can. In email, you can forward your message (which has the voicemail attachment) to anyone else.

Q. How can I check my voicemail from home?

A. Here's How:

You can call 613-727-4723 and say "voicemail" or dial extension 1400. You can listen to your voicemail messages once logged in.

You can use OWA/OWA Light to save the voicemail attachments and play them on your home computer. NOTE: You must VPN in to access OWA.

You must have speakers to listen to voicemails from home. If you don’t have speakers, please call 613-727-4723 extension 1400, or say "voicemail", and login.

Q. Why can’t I connect to the voicemail reset website from home?

A. You Can!

  • You must VPN into the College network.
  • Check for any security software (firewalls) on system to see if it is blocking ports.
  • Make sure you’re typing the website https://voicemail.algonquincollege.com/ciscopca/logon.do
  • Make sure you’re using Internet Explorer. Make sure you have ActiveX installed.
