F.A.Q
Employers   Job Connect   Job Seekers

1. Can anyone access Job Connect services?

Yes. The Job Connect career and employment resources centre are open to people of all ages, regardless of whether they are employed or unemployed. The centre provides many services including assistance with resume and cover letters, research of labour market information, job postings, and access to computers with high speed internet.

2. I thought Job Connect was a service for youth between the ages of 16 and 24?

The program does help a lot of young people find employment or set career goals. As many youth face challenges in finding work because they may lack work experience, the program advocates on their behalf with local employers to help get started. Prior to finding employment, our training consultants prepare our clients for work, by offering helpful workshops and guidance. We work on things like interview preparation, career planning, and how to conduct a job search. In some cases the program can provide financial assistance to employers who hire Job Connect clients, to help cover training costs.

3. Does Job Connect help its clients with the cost of buying equipment or clothing needed for work?

Yes. For clients who have limited or no income, the program can assist with supporting employment related costs such as clothing, tools, and transportation needs. These funds are limited, but can help get someone started when they are looking for work, or they’ve just been hired.

4. What is the Job Connect apprenticeship scholarship?

This scholarship rewards young people under the age of 25 who return to school to upgrade their education to meet the admission requirements for apprenticeship training. Scholarship candidates must complete their upgrading within one year, and if they successfully secure employment as a registered apprentice, they receive a $1,000 scholarship. The employer who hires them as a registered apprentice receives a $1,000 signing bonus, and if the apprentice continues to work for the same employer six months later, the employer received another $1,000.

5. Does Job Connect help students who are looking for summer employment?

Yes. Job Connect has a complimentary program called Summer Jobs Service. This program assists youth under the age of 25 who are returning to school in fall to gain summer employment. High school, college and university students are eligible for the program.
