1. How quickly can I get a job if I register with Job Connect?
It depends on your level of motivation and how realistic your field of interest is. We will work with you to better prepare you for work, but we need you to be motivated to find work.
2. Will the program provide me with the opportunity to get experience in my area of interest?
Yes, provided your goals are realistic and there is availability of relevent employers.
3. How should I dress for the interview?
Try to visit the company to see how everyone else is dressed. The rule of thumb is not to over or under dress. Be neat and clean in appearance.
4. Should I bring a copy of my resume to the interview?
Yes, bring a few extra copies as well! Also bring any relevent information, such as a list of references, portfolios and/or samples of your work.
5. Where should I start looking for employment?
Start with family and friends. Then continue with web sites, newspapers, job boards and Canada Employment Centres. Don't forget the YELLOW PAGES!
6. Is it better to telephone companies or to go in person when job seeking?
Either method is appropriate, however statistics show that those who go in person to a company have a better chance at employment. The key is to follow up on your calls or visits.
7. How much research should I do when preparing for a job interview?
Lots. The more you know about the business you are applying to the better. By doing some research, you show the employer you are interested in their business and motivated to find employment. Remember, just like in other life experiences, first impressions are lasting impressions.
