French as a Second Language
The Language Institute offers more choices in French language training than you could have imagined! Our dynamic, well-trained professionals will help you use and improve your French in a warm, enthusiastic atmosphere. We assure frequent, focused, effective training for the Public Service Commission bilingualism tests. You will also have access to our state-of-the-art Multimedia Language Lab. We are proud to tell you that our students keep coming back!
Admission Process
If you have never taken a French course before, you need to register for the Beginner I FLS5233F (week days) , FLS5242F (weekend) or FLS5223F (intensive - day time) by calling 613-727-0002.

For all other French courses, you will need to take a placement test to determine the appropriate level. For information on testing please click here.  After your test, you will be given a course code number so that you can register for your level. To view testing dates click on Language Testing in the left hand menu.
Our Instructors
The French instructors at the Language Institute bring dedication and love of the French language into their classrooms. They will guide you toward your goals and give you every opportunity to learn French to enhance your employment possibilities, as well as to enrich your life. French spoken with accuracy and precision is a hallmark of our classes. At Algonquin College, learner-centred teaching is what you can expect. Teachers adjust their classes to suit the  learning style of the participants.

Languages are not learned in isolation. The appreciation of French culture from a variety of perspectives is integral to our curriculum. You will learn under faculty who are knowledgeable and who possess enriched cultural experiences from many parts of the world.

The qualifications we require from our faculty include:

1. University degrees in language, linguistics or related fields.

2. Teacher training in French as a Second Language. Our instructors are prepared to meet the challenge! Are you?
