Connecting From Home through the College Network (VPN)
Accessing databases through the Algonquin College's network enables you to access all LRC databases as though you were on campus.
Important Notice : Carswell Lawsource and DLR Plus - two law databases to which the college subscribes - are not available off campus through login with a barcode and PIN number. VPN may be a possible access method from home.
We recommend this method as an alternative means of accessing Learning Resource Centre databases remotely. This method may not be an adequate remote access solution for all users.
STEP 1:
Visit the ITS web site: http://www.algonquincollege.com/its/support/connecthome/index.htm
(2 methods)
The Cisco systems VPN Client program will allow you to connect to the Algonquin computer network from any other internet service provider.
Currently the new WebVPN does not permit access to library databases.
For any help or questions please contact ITS at (613) 727-4723 Ext.5555 or 5555@algonquincollege.com.
Printing the instructions and following along as you install the software is very useful.
(ITS and the LRC cannot assist with configuring your home router)
STEP 2:
Once you can establish a connection to the Algonquin College network, go to the home page of the LRC web site through the connected browser window - http://algonquincollege.com/lrc/databases/databases.htm
STEP 3:
Just as you would on campus, click on the "Databases" link. This will take you to the database index page.
