Classroom Orientations

Orientation and Information Literacy Instruction

Instructional Library Staff are able to offer Research Skills Instruction classes for students, geared towards the coursework and assignments set by the faculty member.  And the good news is, we come to you!

A range of sessions types are available from brief orientation tours of the physical library to more specialized sessions. Examples of  topics that we may cover in an in-class session include:

  • Refining Research Strategies
  • Finding Magazine, Journal and Newspaper Articles
  • Searching beyond Google
  • Academic Research on the Web (Scholarly journals)
  • Critical Evaluation of Web Resources
  • Citing Sources using tools within our electronic resources
  • Avoiding plagiarism and respecting copyright

The time required for an in-class session can vary depending on the topics you would like to have covered. The Instructional Library Staff at each campus would be happy to meet with you to discuss your expectations. This will help us develop useful instruction that will fit within the time period allotted and be relevant to your student's studies.

Because in-class sessions are individually prepared, at least a weeks advanced notice is required.

Orientation tours are best offered to smaller groups and are subject to capacity levels in the library itself.
