FINDING JOBS Company Web Sites and Newspaper Listings
- Many companies post job openings on their own web pages.
- To look at a specific company's listings, try searching for the company name using one of the many search engines available on the Internet.
Hints:
- to search for a company or firm do a "phrase search" using one of the single search engines or meta search engines
- you can also always try typing the name of the company in the address box of your browser. This may work for certain companies.
- View the Learning Resource Centre's subject Guide on Canadian Companies for more information on researching Canadian businesses.
NOTE: This information is also useful as an aid in preparing for interviews.
- Many newspapers are now online and offer an Employment Section that can be viewed or searched. For example the Southam newspapers have a service called careerclick where you can search all the job adds appearing in their newspapers. The Globe and Mail has a similar service called Globecareers.com. (Note: other useful information about job searching as well as a place to post your resume are also available at those sites). the ability to set up e-mail notifications for when jobs are posted that fit a description you have entered is also possible.
Unfortunately all newspapers do not offer searchable listings and some permit you to view the current date only. An excellent strategy is to bookmark the careers page of any newspaper you might wish to view frequently. Some sites for finding newspaper listings are :
