Pembroke Campus Welcomes Back Soldiers From CFB Petawawa

By Jamie Bramburger, Manager of Community & Student Affairs

Staff and students at Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley are pleased that soldiers from CFB Petawawa have started returning home from a difficult six month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Many students and staff at the campus have family members who served on the mission, creating a sometimes difficult learning environment for those who were directly impacted by the deployment of Canadian soldiers. During the mission, 14 soldiers from CFB Petawawa were killed and dozens were injured, some very seriously. In all, more than 13-hundred soldiers from Petawawa were involved in the deployment.

A smaller contingent of approximately 400 troops from CFB Petawawa will be joining soldiers from Atlantic Canada in the upcoming six month tour of duty in Afghanistan.
