AskON is a real-time chat information service that offers immediate, interactive, and knowledgeable research and reference help
on-line. Using chat, AskON staff provide research guidance and can help you navigate the Internet, your library's services, and other online resources.
AskON is a collaboration of ten public and seven post-secondary libraries who have each committed staff time to making this service possible. Using state-of-the-art software from LivePerson (liveperson.com), AskON offers 40 hours a week of chat reference service to public library visitors (up to 10 hours in French) and over 60 hours a week to post-secondary students.
The AskON service is available via the distinctive AskON logo on the websites of participating libraries. You can open a chat session instantly with one of the askON library staff. The post-secondary service is staffed by fine library folks from Algonquin, George Brown, Seneca and Mohawk Colleges as well as Ryerson, York and Lakehead Universities.
A library card/staff ID is not required to use the askON service. Patrons will need the library id, barcode, password, or other information required for authentication at their college or university library in order to access that institution's electronic resources.
