Planning and Tracking Professional Growth

Creating a Professional Development Plan

As faculty prepare for performance appraisals, they are usually asked to submit a plan for professional growth during the coming year. Even if your Chair does not ask for such a plan, you will probably want to set professional development goals for yourself each year. The following provide some tools that may support you in this process.

Assessing Your Needs
Before you create your PD (Professional Development) plan, you may wish to complete or review the Self-Assessment Checklist to see which competencies from the Professor of the 21st Century you might like to focus on for your professional development activities.

This checklist can be downloaded and worked on any time that you wish.

Completing Your Professional Development Plan
You may want to examine one form of professional development plan that is used by a number of faculty at Algonquin College. If you feel this format would be useful to you, click here to download a Word template for this format.
