Preparing Print-Based Independent Learning Materials

There is still a place for print-based learning materials in post-secondary education. Lab manuals, workbooks, and independent study modules are just a few examples of these kinds of learning materials that are used at Algonquin College.


Designing Print-Based Learning Materials, a Queensland government site, provides excellent guidelines for producing print-based materials including writing and spatial design tips, tips for producing documents in multiple formats for special needs students, as well as good links to further resources.

Guide 7: Print in Distance Education. This guideline from the University of Idaho discusses the advantages and disadvantages of print-based resources, as well as providing eight tips for designing print-based materials.
