Using a Variety of Teaching and Learning Strategies

Choosing the Right Model for Your Teaching Purpose

Every teaching model/strategy has its advantages and disadvantages, so professors need to decide which strategy is most appropriate for their teaching practice: for either an entire course, a component within a course, or an individual lesson.

A Comparison of Teaching Models and Strategies is a chart built from Focus on Learning materials that lets you make an easy comparison by focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of many strategies used in teaching, as well as hints for use with each strategy, and, in many cases, a checklist for use.
Comparison Chart

Another comparison chart from ADPRIMA also discusses advantages and disadvantages of different teaching models and strategies. Some of the strategies identified here are different from those in the Focus on Learning chart.

Instructional Strategies for Online Courses from the Illinois Online Network is an excellent resource for those faculty working with hybrid and online courses.
