How the Student Support Lab (SSL) Works

The Student Support Lab is a place where students can come to enhance their general academic skills. Its focus is to help students build a solid foundation of reading, writing, math and research skills in order to support student success.
The lab offers one-on-one assistance, group tutorials and access to computer-based learning resources and supplements other services offered by The Learning Resource Centre.
On your first visit to the SSL we suggest you bring a sample of your writing or assignment that has been graded. Please make an appointment with one of our coaches.

Mission Statement
The Student Support Lab is dedicated to:
- Supporting and encouraging students to achieve their full potential by promoting skills and techniques to become successful in their chosen academic program.
- Providing a welcoming, comfortable environment supporting students and their faculty in their educational efforts.
- Fostering life long learning using various educational resources (peers, computer software, and online tutorial support, workshops) to aid student academic success and support overall college goals.
- Contributing to student success and retention.

- What does the Student Support Lab do?
The Student Support Lab is a place where students can go to enhance their general academic skills. The lab offers one-on-one assistance, group tutorials and access to computer-based learning resources.
- What the Student Support Lab doesn’t do?
The SSL does not help with course specific work, we will show you how to edit your work and help you develop proper research and writing strategies. Students who need assistance with course-specific subject matter should be referred to the Peer Tutoring service provided by Counselling Services. For more information about this service, contact the Test Centre office at extension 7079.
- I have an assignment and don’t know where to begin?
No problem, you can make an appointment with a Student Support Lab coach to discuss possible strategies to explore and help you design a plan.
- I have just started at the College and don’t know much about computers or Blackboard can the SSL help?
Sure, we can go through some computer basics, help you with your N Drive, Algonquin College email and show you Blackboard.
- How do I get help?
Drop by the Student Support Lab on any campus. For Woodroffe campus you can make an appointment online with a Student Support Lab coach or call ext. 6552 for more information.
- Where is the Student Support Lab located?
The Student Support Lab is located in C102, Woodroffe Campus; Rm. 1, Perth Campus; and Rm. 335, Pembroke Campus .
