Meet a Graduating Photography Student:

Mary Dolan,

2009 Photography Graduate

Photography Diploma StudentQ: What made you choose to go into this field?
A: I took a music program and as part of that I had to take a photography course. I fell in love with it right away. We also had a dark room at home so I’ve always been familiar with photography.

Q: Was the experience what you expected it would be like when you got here?
A: Absolutely. It was everything I was hoping for and more. I learned so much more than I thought I would. There was more focus on multi-media, graphic design and web design than I expected. It was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be, but in the end, I enjoyed it all.

Q: What were the most interesting projects/topics that you covered in your program?
A: We did magazine covers, creative ads, movie posters and we had digital editing software at our finger tips to edit photos into things unimaginable.

Q: What tips for success would you give future students in this program or career area?
A: You need time management skills. It’s an extremely fast-paced program and time management is extremely important to get everything done on time.

Q: In a few words, how you would describe your experience in the photography program?
A: Wonderful. I’m going to miss it. It was a growth experience for me. I feel prepared for what is to come now. It was a fantastic two years, and all worth it.

Q: What will be the next step in your career?
A: The program has given me oodles of opportunity. I will find a starting point in my career, start as an assistant and work my way up.

Q: What is the dream job that you aspire to in your field?
A: I want to own my own business. I did a few weddings and I ended up loving it. It’ll be great to do something I love and still serve the public.

Q: How do you think that this program has made you ready to work in your field?
A: They have taught us everything we need to know to survive out there. I feel so prepared to work. They have helped me with resumes, self promotion and equipment.
