Alexandra Laureys,
2009 Print Media Graduating Student
Q: What made you choose to go into this field?
A: The Print Media program sounded very interesting. I’m interested in fashion and print so I thought this program would be beneficial for me.
Q: Was the experience what you expected it would be like when you got here?
A: I didn’t know what I was getting into so it was different in a good way. The pressroom class was especially a different experience for me. I didn’t know that I would be doing every area of print, from designing on computers to the printing of the designs.
Q: What were the most interesting projects/topics that you covered in your program?
A: The most interesting projects we did were the comic book cover and the magazine cover. I liked doing the comic book cover because there were fewer restraints so I could really unleash my creativity. I enjoyed the magazine cover because it’s something I want to do in the future for my career.
Q: What tips for success would you give to future students in this program or career area?
A: Be creative and really use your imagination.
Q: In a few words, how would you describe your experience in the Print Media program?
A: I would describe it as a lot of work, but a good way to meet some really cool people. It’s a tight-knit class, so you really get the chance to help one another out.
Q: What will be the next step in your career?
A: I have my job placement with a magazine. After that, I will apply to magazines in hopes of landing a job.
Q: What is your dream job that you aspire to in your field?
A: My dream job would be working for a fashion magazine, like Vogue.
Q: How do you think that this program has made you ready to work in the field?
A: It is an intense amount of work and I feel like we’ve covered a broad range of things. I won’t be lost when I start a job in this field.
