What does this program teach?
This two-year Ontario College Diploma program provides students with the formal training to become leaders in the television production industry.

What type of courses do you offer in this program?
The curriculum covers all aspects of the production process. Equal importance is given to the creative side of production and technical operations. Following a hands-on approach, students explore all aspects of in-studio and field production, news writing, camera operations and editing.

Where can expect to get a job after graduation?
Graduates may find employment in television stations, media centres, production houses, and community cable systems as studio and field crew members, editors, motion graphic artists, directors, researchers and producers. Opportunities may also exist for graduates wishing to
freelance or start their own production companies.

How much time outside of the classroom is required?
Many projects are completed outside of class hours and significant time is spent working on evenings and weekends.

Am I well suited for this program?
This program is well-suited for students who can work well in a team environment. You should be a “self-starter” who can adhere to strict deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills are a key factor to student success in the program and the industry.

Do I need a computer?
Your learning experience is enhanced through the use of online and mobile technologies in and out of the classroom, allowing you to work with course materials, participate in collaborative learning environments, and become a skilled, confident user of technology. Students are required to use a PC laptop computer with minimum hardware and software specifications as outlined at http://www7.algonquincollege.com/byod/device.htm.

Do I need a camera?
A DSLR camera that shoots video is recommended: Nikon, Sony and Canon models are suitable. Cameras that shoot in 4K are not required, though students may find that 4K cameras are an asset to have after graduation.

How do I progress through the program if I begin in the Winter intake?
Students who begin in January will continue their studies through the spring semester and then continue into the fall and winter semesters.
