Don Crockford:

Don graduated from Carleton University in 1974 with an honours degree in Journalism. He has worked in public and private radio in five provinces. He started at CFGO radio in Ottawa during his last year of University. He has worked in Saskatoon, Halifax, Saint John N.B. Winnipeg and Thompson, Manitoba. He joined the RTV program in 1988 and joined Algonquin full time the next year. Don has been coordinator of the Radio Broadcasting program since its inception in 1991.

Jim Hurcomb:

Jim turned on his first microphone in 1973, and has been entertaining Ottawa radio audiences ever since. Jim's radio experience has included stints in management, hosting Ottawa's #1 morning show on CHEZ-FM, banging out Heavy Metal, hosting an Actra Award nominated afternoon lifestyles program and his current spot, in the big chair, hosting and producing CFRA's "Middle-Aged, Bald Guys Talking Rock and Roll" program. Jim is also an experienced musician, author and teacher, educating adults and high school and university students on the history of popular music. Oh, he also has a "real job" in the federal government.

Dan Pihlainen:

Dan graduated from the Radio Broadcasting Program at Algonquin College in 1998. While still in College he did the weekend news run on Kingston Radio Stations GTO 960 and Country 96. Dan worked at a handful of Ottawa radio stations part time before landing a job in the newsroom at 580CFRA in the fall of 1998. As a radio news reporter he won an RTNDA (Association of Electronic Journalists) award in 2007 for his work in covering the rededication of the Vimy Memorial in France. Dan also spent time in Television News as an assignment editor and news producer for CHUM Television (The NewRO).Dan joined the Radio Broadcasting program as a teacher in 2007. Dan joined the Radio Broadcasting program as a teacher in 2007 and was named coordinator of the program in 2009.

Jeff Mauler:

Jeff has 18 years of radio broadcasting experience and is currently the host of “The Morning HOT Tub” on The New HOT 89-9. Also, Mauler is the host of Canada’s biggest syndicated countdown – The Canadian Hit 30. In addition to his role on radio, Mauler is a regular contributor to Rogers TV, currently hosting "Ottawa Living" and having previously hosted 'Your Screen Test' and 'daytime'. Mauler has great commitment to his community, spending as much time as he can working for local charities and non-profit organizations. He has even been buried alive in concrete, trapped underwater, and locked in a coffin, all for 48 straight hours – raising tens of thousands of dollars for Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Trust, for which he also serves as a member of the Board of Directors.

Barbara McDougall:
Barbara has over 24 years experience in the media industry. Her forte has been in Sales & Account Management with experience in radio, newspaper and print industries. She has won numerous Sales awards throughout her career. She presently owns her own company and works as a consultant in Advertising/Marketing, Sales Training and Business Coaching. She has diverse knowledge in media planning & buying in all forms with a unique approach to training. Barbara is a Director on the Board for the Distress Centre of Ottawa and Region and holds the position of Secretary. She has been a part time Professor at Algonquin College since 2005 teaching in the Radio and Advertising Programs.

Nancy Fletcher:

Part-time

Nancy graduated from the Radio & Television Arts program at Algonquin College in 1979. Right after graduation, she landed a job as a copywriter at CKOY/CKB. Nancy worked her way up the ranks and became the Creative Directory\ at CKYBY/CIWW until 1991. While she was still working full time in radio Nancy joined the part time teaching staff at Algonquin College. She teaches in three programs: Radio Broadcasting, Advertising and Public Relations. Nancy is currently employed at Rogers Radio Group as a creative writer. When she’s not writing copy, Nancy is Mom to Kaitlyn and Sarah and an avid curler.

Mike Irvin

Part-time

Mike is a veteran radio producer and Algonquin College Broadcasting graduate, class of 1978. He has won 5 Ottawa Advertising and Sales awards and is especially proud of the recognition received from the Governor General of Canada for his public service production work. Able to work in a variety of media, Mike has done camera, audio and scripting for television and has delved into the digital realm producing video for the internet. He is a producer at the multi-station Rogers Media facility and focusers on imaging production for Y105. Mike has been teaching in both the day time and continuing education radio programs for over 10 years and has also created radio performance workshops for the Algonquin Theatre Arts program.

Mark Valcour

Part-time

Mark Valcour has been an audio production engineer since 1979. After studying Engineering at Carleton University in the mid 70s. Mark joined the broadcast crew at CKCU-FM and was their Production Manager until 1984. He then joined 54 Rock (now The Bear) for a year and a half as an Assistant Engineer. In 1984 Mark was hired by Algonquin College to teach Advanced Production Techniques in their RTV Program. In 1986 Mark was hired as the full-time Radio Technologist for The Carleton School of Journalism. Both school postings he currently holds.

Also since 1984, Mark has operated his own audio production company called Sound Output. He produces all forms of audio including: bands (live and in Multi Track studio), radio commercials and special events/projects sound. Mark’s life is sound.
