Algonquin College Wins Gold At Ontario Tech Skills Competition

Algonquin College students are bringing home gold, silver and bronze after competing in Canada’s largest skilled trade and technology competition this week.

Twenty-seven Algonquin students travelled to the Toronto Congress Centre on Sunday to take part in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition, where they competed against hundreds of students from across the province for the right to compete nationally at Skills Canada.

Awards were announced Wednesday afternoon.

“We are so proud of all our competitors,” said Algonquin College President Cheryl Jensen. “Their showing is a credit to their dedication this year and to the outstanding work of their many instructors and coaches. I want to congratulate them all.”

This year Algonquin College students return with 10 medals in nine disciplines — three more than they received in 2016.

Algonquin struck Gold in two categories — Restaurant Services and IT Network Systems.
