PAST EVENTS

Two female applied research technicians speak with a male event attendee“E-Tech Solutions Symposium” – Friday, December 4th, 2014 @ Waterfront Campus
Third-level students in the Environmental Technician program held their final term community-based research projects. These projects span across two courses: Land and Water Stewardship and Environmental Issues.

Projects range from riparian zone plant and fauna inventories, building a Bioswale at the Shaw Woods Outdoor Education Centre, lake-bottom sediment sampling on Muskrat Lake, determining nutrient “hot spots” along the Snake River, investigating a bridge washout at Biederman’s Creek, data interpretation, and outreach/website design.

These community-based research projects are part of the funding received by the Pembroke Campus through the WAMQI program, as part of the Growing Forward 2 grant, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative that looks to provide $1.5 million to projects that support farm water quality and water quantity objectives.

The Muskrat Watershed Council is an important partner for the Muskrat Watershed Project being led by ACOV. The Muskrat Watershed Project, also known as, Visualizing and Quantifying Sources of Nutrients in the Agriculturally Dependent Muskrat River Watershed, is funded through the WAMQI program, as part of the Growing Forward 2 grant released by Farm & Food Care Ontario.

The second annual “Science Night” was hosted by the Muskrat Watershed Council. Members of the community were invited to attend to share knowledge, learn, listen, and ask whatever questions they had pertaining to the watershed. Science Night was an opportunity to share the science and help stakeholders understand the science in a manner that is accessible!

Keynote speaker was Sid Vander Veen who provided guidance on municipal and agricultural drainage topic area(s).

Pembroke Campus students participated in the annual Applied Research Day at the Ottawa Campus in December 2012.
Three students in the Outdoor Adventure Program, Katarina Pavlica, Lauren and Allan Booth took second place for their Algonquin Way project.

The Pembroke Campus held their own event in the spring of 2013 and 2014. This event showcases the kinds of projects the students are developing with community partners and allows fellow students, faculty and staff, as well as the public, to view the projects and find out more about the projects by speaking directly with the students.
