Loggersports

What is Loggersports All About?

Loggersports is a unique varsity sport offered at the Pembroke Campus. It builds on the long history of the forestry trade in the Pembroke area by offering students the opportunity to compete against other colleges and universities in several forestry related skills including pole climbing, crosscut sawing, axe throwing and axe chopping.

For several years, the Loggersports team performed at Ottawa RedBlacks games but this relationship ended during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re proud that our Loggersports athletes were there to cut a wooden cookie to celebrate the first touchdown scored in team history and also attended two Grey Cup games with the football club. When the RedBlacks won the Grey Cup in 2016, our team was there to be part of the celebration.

Our team is funded by the Algonquin Students’ Association and is also sponsored by ECHO Canada! Loggersports Team

Safety is of utmost concern, and is emphasized at all times, yet each participant has a great time with this challenging and robust outdoor sport!
