He has embarked on a number of adventure activities including a solo bike trek across Canada, a mountainous bike expedition in Italy, and a desert bike trip throughout the Southwestern United States. On various occasions, he has gone back country winter camping and skiing across Canada.

In December 2006, Ben Shillington and another Outdoor Adventure graduate, Cameron Dube, are helping Ben Webster lead students on an expedition in Africa for Algonquin College's Small World Big Picture educational project.
