Anywhere. . . Anytime. . .Your Laptop is A Portable Classroom
The use of technology has transformed the way business is done around the world. In a 24-7 work environment, business never stops and much of the world’s business transactions now take place in a virtual environment. From on-line banking to e-commerce, the Internet has become a powerful tool for doing business.
Several years ago, Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley recognized the future of technology in business and how they would be interconnected. We built a wireless campus and changed our teaching and learning approach by introducing a laptop learning environment for students. By incorporating technology so closely with the subjects taught in the business program, the laptop computer becomes a necessary and invaluable tool for our students.
All students who study in the Business program are required to own a laptop computer. The College provides information to applicants about the type of computer they need, the software that will be required for their program, and how learning in a laptop program is different from traditional learning. (See link below).
As a student in the Business program, you will be able to take full advantage of the high-speed wireless network on campus. Being able to use your laptop anywhere, anytime, is especially beneficial if other computer centres on campus may be busy, or if you want to work in a more casual environment to access on-line courses or do research. When not in class, you may just want to relax in the cafeteria, library or quiet area and spend time surfing or facebooking--you and your computer can work or play whenever you're ready to.
