Co-op Valuable to students:
Co-op work placements are valuable to students in so many ways.
When you are in your co-op placement, you will get actual hands-on experience in the workplace in a job that is related to your career choice.
You will have the opportunity to work both as a team member and independently, under supervision. You will learn new skills and improve your social interactions, and lastly, you will gain confidence and a more credible resume. All these benefits and you earn a pay cheque too!
Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley values workplace experiences for our students. We have five programs at our Pembroke Campus that offer students the opportunity to work within their field to gain invaluable experience.
Here are some key features of our Computer Systems Technician co-op program:
To be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a high academic standing in their first term of studies. Co-op is optional with the exception of the Motive Power Technician Co-op Apprenticeship Diploma which has a mandatory co-op experience for its students.
- Students must apply for a co-op experience and while the college makes every effort to help the student secure a placement, it is not guaranteed. Co-op is a partnership between the student, the college and the employer and all parties must do their part to make it a successful program
- Co-op placements are usually for a minimum of 14 weeks
- Co-op placements in the Computer Systems Technician program takes place during the summer semester. For the CST program, students will be required to complete a minimum of 448 hours of paid co-op work experience.
