Golfing & Skiing!

These popular sports add up to lots of exciting opportunities for people

who would love to work year-round in the golf and ski industries.

Starting in the fall of 2008, Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley is adding a new outdoor training program to its roster of exciting adventure offerings.

NEW FOR FALL 2008!  The Golf and Ski Operations Management diploma program will teach you a combination of hands-on technical skills and a grounding in current business practices.  Graduates will be well-prepared for employment in this expanding market.

In this two-year co-op program, you will learn a variety of skills from snow making to greens maintenance and inside operations from food and beverage service to rental/retail shop management. 

You will also be studying the important business fundamentals necessary to help with the operation of a golf and ski resort--everything from web-based marketing, special event programming and risk management, to customer service, leadership, and ecological awareness.

This program is flexible and multi-faceted...when it comes to meeting the needs of employers with golf and ski operations, our graduates will possess a good foundation in business operations and hundreds of hours of hands-on technical skills learned directly on the job.  As an employee, you will have the ability to continue to learn and grow within a company and the potential to make a contribution to the industry in the future.

Program Format & Schedule for 2008-09

This fast-track program creates a competitive advantage for our students because they will earn a diploma in just 16 months, rather than in a traditional 2-year format.

Here is the format for the program of studies for this fall:

Semester 1:     Sept. 2 - Nov. 21/08   

Ski Co-Op:       Nov. 24/08 - Feb.  20/09

Semester 2:     Feb. 23 - May 19/09

Golf Co-Op:      May 22 - Sept. 18/09

Semester 3:      Sept. 21 - Dec. 12/09 – Program ends in time for the ski season
