The Golf and Ski Operations Management program combines both practical and academic elements as it trains students to work year-round in the golf and ski industries. Students will learn not only business management skills but inside and outside technical operations as well.
This hands-on program also offers students the opportunity to participate in two paid co-operative education experiences--one in golf and the other in the ski industry. With hundreds of hours spent learning the skills needed to work in all facets of the golf and ski sectors, graduates will be in a key position to take on leadership roles within this growing industry.
The majority of the program focuses on learning how to run a golf and ski operation, but it also trains students in technical aspects of outside operations from snowmaking to greens maintenance, and in the practical skills of inside operations such as food and beverage management and retail/pro shop management.
The curriculum covers a broad range of business and environmental courses including web-based marketing, risk management for golf course and ski hill managers, customer service, event programming, ecology, soils, botany, and much more.

Paid Co-op Experiences
This hands-on program also offers students the opportunity to participate in two co-operative education experiences. These two mandatory work placements, one at a golf operation and the other in the ski industry, allow students to gain specific industry knowledge and skills while they explore their career options.
Program Format
The program spans five semesters with theory and practical courses being taught in semesters one, three and five, and co-op experiences taking place in semesters two and four. Each semester is 12 weeks long and students begin their studies in the fall.
Statement of Responsibility, Safety and Liability
In order to learn the skills necessary to become an effective leader in the tourism industry, students must perform beyond the limits of a mere participant and assume a greater degree of responsibility and risk.
There is an inherent element of risk which is beyond human control. Only those risks that contribute to career related skills, knowledge, and experience are acceptable, as directed by industry standards, certification, licenses, and specific course outlines. This is termed "risk appropriate" training. Risks that fall outside of the scope of industry practice are deemed inappropriate for technical training programs at Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley. Although effort is made to minimize exposure to these risks, we can ultimately assume no responsibility for your safety or loss of personal equipment.
A signed liability release is required of all students before commencement of the program. An additional liability release may be required for courses delivered through subcontractors or host agencies. The student is encouraged to read these carefully and fully understand the forms' legal implications before signing. A parent/guardian release is required for minors (under 18 years of age).
