Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley’s Motive Power Technician Co-op Apprentice Diploma Program is designed to give students the skills and experience they need to start their career in the automotive industry.
In less than 1½ years, this hands-on, four-semester program allows students to complete all three levels of the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship Training Program curriculum, earn a college diploma, and gain invaluable working experience through a paid
co-operative education
placement in the automotive industry.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

This program requires students to complete all three levels of the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship Training Program, therefore students must meet the apprenticeship academic requirement before registering. The admission requirement is a high school diploma or high school equivalency (including: GED, ACE, college diploma in any discipline, or a recognized apprenticeship trades certificate).

PROGRAM FEATURES:
- A three-in-one deal: A college diploma, a paid co-op experience, and the completion of all three levels of the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship Training Program curriculum in only a year and a half.
- Program courses include: fuel and electrical systems; vehicle chassis; internal combustion engines; and fuel management systems. Plus, students receive training in occupational health and safety, small engine repair, small business, and communication skills.
- Hundreds of hours of practical, hands-on training!
FINANCIAL BURSARIES & AWARDS AVAILABLE
TO MOTIVE POWER STUDENTS:
Each year students in the Motive Power Technician Apprentice Co-op Diploma program qualify for generous bursaries. While some of these bursaries are based on academic performance, many are intended to support students in financial need.
Bursaries can range from $100 to $1,500 and can greatly assist students in paying their educational expenses.
The following are some of the bursaries available for students enrolled in the Motive Power Technician Co-op Apprentice Diploma program.
Nissan Canada Inc. Bursary
This bursary is awarded to students in the Motive Power Technician program who maintain a B grade average and are in financial need.
Toyota Canada Foundation Bursary
This bursary is awarded to students in the Motive Power Technician program. Students must demonstrate financial need with a minimum B+ average. Half of the bursary is to be disbursed upon completion of the first semester and the other half upon completion of the second semester.
Auto Parts Extra Award-Pembroke and Eganville Stores
This award is presented to the graduate of the Motive Power Technician program who has demonstrated the best ability to apply his or her knowledge to practical applications within the automotive trade.
Darwin Wendover Memorial Award
This award is presented to the graduate of the Motive Power Technician program who in the opinion of the faculty has achieved the highest academic standard.
NAPA Auto Parts Award
This award is presented to a graduate of the Motive Power Technician program who has demonstrated significant improvement in the areas of academic and practical achievement through the combination of hard work, commitment and perseverance.
