Planning to build, remodel or repair cottages or homes? This course covers modern and traditional materials using current trade practices and methods to finish floors, walls, ceilings and openings. Topics include installing windows, doors and hardware, applying interior trim and laying hardwood flooring; preparing the base and laying out materials. The safe and efficient use of hand and portable power tools will be emphasized. Work boots and safety goggles required. All other tools and materials will be supplied.
Tamar is a graduate of the Heritage Carpentry program who has put her skills to good use working in the carpentry trade and developing her expertise in joinery.
Shawn is a graduate of the Heritage Carpentry program with significant and varied experience in historic renovation and new construction. Shawn has a particular interest in Canadian architecture and timber framing. He brings to his teaching a strong commitment to traditional carpentry techniques.

This system informs individuals to understand, monitor and control hazardous materials in the workplace. Describes to individuals the controlled products they are exposed to, injury and damage that can result if hazards are left uncontrolled, and most importantly methods utilized to control them and measures taken if controls fail. WHMIS provides individuals with the proper information to use, handle, store or dispose of hazardous materials.

The "Basics of Fall Protection" provides training to personnel that assist them to overcome hazards associated with working at heights. This training is a must in construction and in other industry where height is an issue.
This course introduces participants to controls put in place if a worker may be exposed to a hazard of falling. These elements will include both types the "Basics of fall Protection" employs, fall prevention and fall arrest systems.
Topics of Fall Prevention include
Ladders; Scaffolds; Powered Elevating Work Platforms; Protective Covers; Warning Barriers and Bump lines; Guardrails; Travel Restraint.
Topics of Fall Arrest include: Safety Net Systems; Fall Arrest Systems; Fall Arrest Components; Fall Arrest Planning; Eliminate Bottoming out and Pendulum Swing; Emergency Rescue Requirements.

Chainsaws are convenient, efficient tools. However, in the hands of an untrained or careless person, they are extremely dangerous. Chainsaw Awareness training introduces participants to proper procedures to follow to help reduce these dangerous situations.
This course will include crucial elements of the chainsaw, such as: responsibilities and legislation; associated hazards; personal protective gear; pre-start operation including cleanliness, maintenance, safety features, fuelling & oiling; starting and operation involving proper control, preventing kickback and proper cutting.

Open Door Development
Learn how to provide care for adults, children and infants in distress! This course covers immediately life-threatening emergencies including asthma, anaphylaxis, angina, heart attack, stroke, transient ischemic attacks, and deadly bleeding, as well as non-immediately life-threatening emergencies such as spinal injuries, sprains/strains, fractures, diabetic shock, imminent childbirth, hypothermia, heat stroke and more. Hands-on practice is provided with professional equipment and constructive feedback from the facilitator. All successful participants will receive a nationally recognized Canadian Red Cross certificate. This course is WSIB compliant. Manual included. Delivered in partnership with Open Door Development.
