Who is best suited for this program?
You are best suited for this program if you have effective communication skills, analytical, interpersonal and observational skills, are committed to serving the broad and diverse needs of your community, maintain a good level of physical fitness, and enjoy working as a member of a team.

When can I take this program?
There are two program intakes: September and January.

The duration of the Fall intake of this program is the standard two years: 1st (Fall) & 2nd (Winter) semester with a summer break, followed by 3rd semester in Fall with the final semester in Winter, ending in the Spring.

The Winter intake is offered in a continuous format commencing in January (1st semester), continuing in May (2nd semester), and then in September (3rd semester) and finally ending with the 4th semester which begins the following January. This continuous format allows you to graduate in the Spring – so that you can start your career sooner.

Do you need this diploma to be hired by a police agency?
Many agencies give preference to students with post-secondary education in the justice field.
This diploma is a requirement for employment with the Military Police.

What are the deportment expectations of a Police Foundations student?
As a student in the program, you are represent the field of law enforcement as a whole. Please read the Police Foundations Professionalism Policy as it will assist you in developing and maintaining proper deportment.

What is the workload like?
The workload is equivalent to any full-time program of post-secondary study. Most classes are hybrid, which means students will spend one hour per week doing independent work outside of the classroom.

I’m interested in transferring credits from this diploma program to a university. Are there any transfer agreements in place?
Articulation agreements are available for you should you decide to continue your studies. Here is some more information.

What is required to be a police officer in Ontario?
Application criteria for police services in Ontario are outlined in the Police Services Act.
Applicants must:
Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
Be at least 18 years of age;
Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of the position:
Be of good moral character and habits;
A graduate of at least 4 years of secondary school education or its equivalent.
