Martin Restoule was born, raised, and still lives in Perth, Ontario. After working at Perkins Motors as a car and truck technician, Martin enrolled in the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship program at Algonquin College in 1979.

Following his graduation in 1982, Martin returned to Perkins Motors where he eventually was promoted to shop foreman. In 1989, Martin accepted a job at Algonquin College as an Automotive Technician Professor where he continues to keep students involved in his lectures that are “light, lively, and interesting” in order to relay his experience to the students.

Teaching up-to-date information and technology is paramount. Over the years Martin, and professors in the department, have kept their knowledge of the automotive trade up-to-date by actively educating themselves, on their personal time, and participating in as many professional development (PD) courses

possible. In 1993, Martin founded the Truck and Coach Technician Apprenticeship Program. This is a 24 week Program designed for students who have completed the Commercial Vehicle Common Core level course and are working in the truck and coach repair industry.

Martin is also an author. He has written eight test preparation handbooks for students in the United States, one for Canadian students and most recently Martin was the lead writer for Automotive Technology: A System Approach, which is the first Canadian edition of that textbook series.

Martin has enjoyed his 17 years at Algonquin. “Everyday I enjoy getting up and coming into work, not everyone can say that,” Martin explains.
