SCHOOL OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
Green Architecture

The program offers students an opportunity to broaden their existing skills to compete in the burgeoning field of alternative technologies related to eco-friendly (Green) architecture. Students are exposed to a specialized range of technologies that reduce the environmental impact of human habitation and commercial activity. Courses in materials and methods designed to provide sustainable energy conservation improvements, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and to harness the energy resources of the sun, wind and water are featured. Design factors related to eco-friendly construction such as building orientation to maximize the use of renewable resources and the use of renewable building materials build on the students' existing knowledge base.

The field of Green Architecture is a natural result of the growth of building technology. Increases in the cost of carbon-based fuels and an increased awareness of their impact on the environment make this program an attractive option for current and graduate students of architectural technology programs. The program builds capacity and adds depth to the knowledge of students and workers in this field allowing them to specialize in, or broaden, their expertise.

The graduate is able to evaluate and analyze current practices in building design and assume a leadership role in the planning and application of complex, non-routine technologies related to architecture. Graduates typically find work in architectural firms and related industries as technologists and, potentially, as consultants and specialized practitioners.
