Located in Central America, Costa Rica is bordered to the north by Nicaragua; to the south by Panama; to the west by the Pacific Ocean; to the east by the Caribbean Sea. It's land area is about 51,100 square kilometers with a population of 4.1 million (Toronto has about 4.2 million people in 9,441sq.kms).

The official language is Spanish. Ticos, as the locals are called, are known for being friendly and helpful and usually speak a little English.

Costa Rican exports to Canada include Fruit (bananas, plantains, pineapples and melons); coffee; electrical machinery; sugars; optical equipment. Canadian imports into Costa Rica include Newsprint, meat, machinery, fertilizers, textiles.
