Do I need to submit an application to graduate?   If you are a full-time student you will have paid a “graduation fee” as part of your tuition. There is no need to submit an application and you will be sent an invitation to Convocation via e-mail once your graduate status has been confirmed. If you are a Continuing Education student, you do need to complete a Certificate/Diploma Application and a $40.00 fee will apply. Please allow 4 – 6 weeks for processing. The last date to apply in order to attend the Spring Convocation Ceremony is May 12, 2017.

Who is eligible to attend the 2017 Convocation ceremonies?   Graduates from all post-secondary day diploma/certificate programs or post-secondary diploma/certificate programs taken through Continuing and Online Learning, as well as graduates from Continuing and Online Learning certificate programs.

What if I do not wish to have my name published in the Convocation Book? Advise the Registrar’s Office (fax. 613-727-7767/convocation@algonquincollege.com), if you do not want your name published in the convocation program. Be sure to do this before May 12, 2017.

What happens if I owe money to the College?  Outstanding payments to the College (tuition fees, parking fines, media/resource fines, etc.) must be paid prior to your Convocation Ceremony otherwise your diploma/certificate will be withheld.

When can I register for Convocation?  Online registration begins Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. and concludes Friday, June 16, 2017 at noon. Please

Where do I park and is there a charge?  Parking is available free of charge at the Canadian Tire Centre.

What about parking for people with special needs?

Special parking and access for guests with special needs are found at Gate 3 on the west side of the venue.

I was supposed to go to the Fall Convocation and I didn’t. Can I come to this one?  Yes, however your name will not appear in the Convocation book as it would have been listed in the Fall book. Please notify your client service officer, if you are unsure of your client service officer name or contact details, please contact the Registrar’s Office and have your student number handy.

What if I am getting more than one diploma/certificate?  You will need to decide what program you wish to participate with as you will only be crossing the stage once. You will pick up both credentials after you cross the stage.

How many guests am I allowed to invite?  You may bring up to 10 guests.

Are extra guest tickets available?  Extra guest tickets could be made available. Please make your request known when you come pick up your ticket package.

How do I get my Convocation Package (marshall card/tickets)?

Your convocation package will be available for pick up at the Registrar’s Office Welcome Station as of June 7th, (until 3 p.m. on June 16th) or prior to your respective ceremony in the lobby at Canadian Tire Centre. If you register after June 7th, your convocation package will be available two business days after you register.

I can’t pick up my tickets; can they be mailed to me?  Yes. Please make that request at the time of registration. Alternatively, they may be picked up in the lobby of Canadian Tire Centre prior to the Ceremony.

I have family that won’t be able to attend the ceremony.  Will it be videotaped and live streamed on the web?  Yes at http://www.algonquincollege.com/live/

Are there any costs associated with the ceremony?   No, although flowers and diploma frames will be made available for purchase.

I have special needs and will require accommodationHow do I arrange for this?   Please make your requirements known at the time of registration.  You will be contacted prior to the ceremony to discuss your needs with our staff.

My guest is in a wheelchair, how will s/he be accommodated?  The staff at the Canadian Tire Centre are experienced with guests who require special considerations and are well trained on how to provide assistance. Please have your guests present themselves to any staff member and they will assist. Special parking and access for your guests with special needs are found at Gate 3 on the west side of the venue.

How long is the ceremony?  The lengths of the ceremonies vary; however, the average time allotted for the ceremony is two hours.

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?  We ask that you arrive at the “Dodge Gate” 45 minutes prior to the start time of your ceremony with your Marshall Card (included in your package).

What should I wear?  Casual business attire is recommended as shirt collars/ties will be visible in pictures. Lower legs and footwear will be visible beneath the gowns.

What do I do with my purse or personal belongings?  As there is no secure storage backstage we ask that you leave your purse or personal belongings with your guests. Carrying items as you cross the stage may be awkward.

How will I know what to do at the ceremony? Once you arrive and register, you will then be directed to a procession area where you will line up with your classmates, until the ceremony begins. Once you have lined up, our staff will be on-hand to guide you through the process involved in receiving your credential, if you have not already received it by mail.

What happens at the ceremony?  During the ceremony, as you cross the stage, you will be handed an envelope with a letter of congratulations from the President. Backstage you will receive your actual credential, with the exception of those graduates who previously received this document by mail. The ceremony will last approximately two hours and we do request that you remain throughout the ceremony as a courtesy to your fellow graduates. Upon conclusion of the ceremony, you will return to the backstage area and return your gown. You may then join your guests, classmates, and faculty in the lobby area near Gate No.1. A photography area with gowns, V-stoles and academic hoods will be located in the tent outside of Gate No.1 for families and friends wishing to take photos.

Is it ok to applaud during the ceremony?  Every graduate would like to hear his/her name called as they cross the stage. Please refrain from applause until all graduates have been presented in each School.

What happens if I arrive late to the ceremony?  Please go to the “Dodge Gate” at the Canadian Tire Centre and you will be quickly escorted backstage to get your gown etc. Our staff will be on hand to direct you from there. Your guests should go to Gate No. 1 where they should be prepared to present their tickets to the ushers. If you are unable to arrive at the designated time, it may not be possible to seat you with your classmates.

When I cross the stage, I would like to be called something other than what appears on the “Marshall Card”, can that be done?   We can accommodate that request at our discretion. Write the name as it should be called on the Marshall Card. The “caller” will then announce that name.

Will there be a Photographer available to take my picture the day of the ceremony? Yes.

How do I contact the photographer?   Contact information for the photographer will be included in your Convocation package.

Are flowers available at the ceremony?  Yes, flowers will be made available to purchase before and after the ceremony.

Can I purchase a frame for my credential or picture after the ceremony?  Yes, representatives from our Connections Bookstore will have frames available for purchase before and after the ceremony.

I am unable to attend my Convocation.  How do I get my diploma? Should you not be able to attend convocation, your credential will be mailed to you. Shipping times may vary depending on destination. Please ensure your mailing address is up to date by logging on to ACSIS and updating your student profile as necessary.

Why is my name not in the Convocation Book?  The list of graduates includes, to the best of our ability, the names of all students declared eligible to graduate at the time the Convocation Book goes to print. We offer sincere apologies if any names have been omitted.

How will I meet up with my guests after the ceremony?  We would suggest that you arrange to meet your guests at a predetermined location.

Is there a reception after the ceremony?  Light refreshments will be made available in the main foyer of the Canadian Tire Centre after the ceremony.
