3. Plan Your Finances

It’s important to have a financial plan. There are a variety of financial options available to suit your needs. We’ve highlighted a few options below.

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a financial aid program that can make it easier for you to pay for school. When you apply to Algonquin College through ontariocolleges.ca, you can submit your OSAP application – and we suggest you do! Visit ontario.ca/OSAP to apply.

OSAP offers two different types of funding:

  • grants: money you don’t have to pay back
  • loans: money you need to repay

OSAP is a needs-based program meant to supplement the resources provided by you, your parents or your spouse. The amount of OSAP assistance you receive depends on your calculated financial need using a formula that compares your educational costs against your income and the expected contributions from your parents or spouse.

Need help navigating OSAP? Contact Financial Aid.

OSAP Perks
You can decline the loan portion of your assessment and only accept grants. This is a great option if you have other financial support for your education and are trying to minimize debt.
