Project Dare

This one day event promises to be a lot of fun and give students an idea of the support services available at the post-secondary level.

Project DARE is a transition program coordinated by the Centre for Students with Disabilities at Algonquin College for high school students with disabilities considering post-secondary studies. The college environment is substantially different from high school and every student who attends college must prepare to face new challenges and experiences - adjusting to living away from home for the first time, learning time management skills, adapting to new social roles and expectations, and meeting greater academic challenges. Similar to the Make the CUT transition program for high school students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD, Project DARE will provide students with an overview of student support services available at any Ontario college as well as an introduction to strategic learning approaches.

Who

This transition workshop is for grade 11 and 12 high-school students with Asperger's Syndrome who are thinking of attending a post secondary institution.

Why

This workshop is intended to facilitate the transition from high school to a college setting. By providing information about Algonquin and about college in general, a student can feel more prepared to take on the challenge knowing that there are resources and accommodations available in order to ease the transition.
