SLICE
The SLICE Conference
Thursday, August 21st, 2008
What is SLICE?
Overview: As students enter life at Algonquin College, one of our goals is to assist with their transition. The roles and responsibilities of the student as well as of the faculty/staff are different from what existed in the secondary setting. Students are required to be proactive and to be their own self-advocates. The SLICE Conference is a free event meant to provide information about these new responsibilities and expectations as well as to highlight college services available to students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD. During interactive workshops, students are introduced to the Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) team and the support available to students with disabilities. In effect, students are given a head start to a successful and rewarding academic experience.

Who should attend?
The SLICE Conference is intended for recent high school graduates with learning disabilities and/or ADHD who are planning to attend Algonquin College in the fall of 2008.
What if I attended Make the CUT?
This one-day conference builds on the information received during the Make the CUT program. You will learn about the specific services offered at Algonquin College. You will meet Disability Counsellors and staff at the Center for Students with Disabilities. Unlike Make the CUT, when registering for the SLICE Conference, you choose which sessions you want to attend. You can focus on what interests you.
Conference Highlights:
- You get to choose the workshops you want to do
- All workshops are interactive. You will leave with real tools to use in your individual programs.
- You will receive a toolkit which will include supplies used during the workshops.
- Participants can schedule their first meeting with a Disabilities Counsellor.
- Light refreshments and a BBQ lunch will be provided.
