Expenses not Eligible for Funding under the BSWD
Bursary Regulations
In some cases, a student requires additional equipment and/or services due to their disability. The Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) is available to assist post-secondary students in purchasing these additional costs of equipment and services.
ELIGIBILITY:
You are eligible for a BSWD bursary if you:
- Are an Ontario Resident
- Have applied to and qualified for OSAP* or OSBP
- Have provided documentation that supports a disability
- Out-of-province students should discuss their eligibility for the
- bursary with our Financial Aid Office

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Application forms are available from your counsellor at the Centre for Students with Disabilities.
DISABILITY-RELATED EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES:
The following disability-related educational expenses may be funded under the BSWD:
Services
- Notetakers
- Scribes and/or readers
- Tutoring services
- Psychoeducational assessments
- Specialized transportation for students with mobility impairments
- Alternative to text material

EXPENSES NOT ELIGIBLE FOR FUNDING UNDER THE BSWD:
The following expenses are not eligible for funding under the BSWD:
Non-disability related educational expenses, such as tuition, residence or books
Expenses that are not related to a student's attendance in post-secondary education
Expenses incurred during time periods that OSAP or OSBP funding was not provided
BURSARY REGULATIONS:
You are required to provide receipts for services and equipment purchased. If you do not provide the appropriate receipts you may be required to repay all or a portion of the bursary.
The bursary is considered a taxable benefit. You will receive a T4 for the year in which you receive the bursary.
* (If you are deemed ineligible for OSAP your disability-related expenses may be used as part of a recalculation for BSWD eligibility.)
