The Dr. John Burton AT Lab

The Dr. John Burton AT Lab is a dedicated lab intended to provide training and access to Assistive Technology. Anyone registered with the CSD can us this lab.

Who is Dr. John Burton?

Dr. John Davis Burton
“A champion and an advocate for persons with disabilities”

Dr Burton made significant contribution towards awareness, equity and integration of persons with disabilities throughout his career as an educator. He served as a learning disability specialist in “The Centre for Students with Disabilities” at Algonquin college from 1989 to 1990. Dr Burton died on February 25th 1992 after a short and very courageous battle with cancer. He stills lives on earth through the acts of goodness he performed and in the hears and minds of those who cherish his memory.

CSD AT Lab Rules

The principle use of the CSD Adaptive Technology Lab is for educational and academic purposes. The CSD Lab is intended to a be comfortable, quiet and safe working environment.

No loud talking or any other disturbance is permitted in the
CSD AT Lab. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.

Priority use of a specific workstation shall be granted to a
student who needs to use adaptive software or hardware on
that workstation.

Only software provided by the college is to be used in the CSD AT Lab.

Students are not to change workstation configuration. Problems regarding configuration should be referred to the lab technician or monitor.

Students using audio for reading and or speech technology, course material, accommodations, etc. are asked to bring in their own headsets.

Students must adhere to the Algonquin College computer use policy.

No food or drink is permitted at the workstations.

Students are asked not to leave any personal material in the lab.

Students are to turn off or set all cell phones, pagers or other devices that make noise to silent mode. When using a cell phone, take all calls outside the CSD AT Lab.

Computers are not to be used for recreational purposes. The use of online chat not specifically related to course work is not allowed. Game playing is not allowed.
