Sustainability Month: April 2010

During the whole month of April, 2010, Algonquin employees demonstrated their commitment to a Sustainable Algonquin. Through a variety of grassroots initiatives, as well as through public events, such as the inaugural Champions of Sustainability luncheon on April 23, 2010. Sustainability Month invited participation in activities that reflect the College’s belief of the urgent need to move toward an environmentally-sustainable future.

Sustainability Month 2010 also provided Algonquin College the opportunity to celebrate some of its accomplishments. The actions of many individuals, alongside team efforts to continue to redefine our operations with the goal of decreasing the College’s ecological footprint and positively contributing to society.

How green is your soap? With the assistance and inspiration from Culinary studies professors David Fairbanks and Scott Warrick, students have created a line of soaps made out of duck fat – a by-product of learning to cook culinary masterpieces such as duck confit and duck a l’orange.
