Liberal leader Stephane Dion promised universal loan eligibility and longer interest relief to Canadian students during a Sept. 29 visit to Algonquin.
Dion and several other Liberal Party members, including Ottawa West-Nepean candidate David Pratt, were on campus to tour the nursing facilities and to introduce themselves to students. They were followed through Algonquin’s halls by two dozen national media members.
In order to “prepare Canada for the future,” Dion outlined several of the changes that his Liberals will institute to help students in need.
With the federal election fast approaching, candidates from the Ottawa West-Nepean riding have begun to throw political jabs at one another regarding Algonquin’s expansion.
Environment minister and Conservative incumbent, John Baird said that the federal government gave $358 million to Ontario through the Community Development Trust, a program which was announced in March 2008 and is intended to fund new skills training centres throughout Ontario.
