Crocs and faded jeans are fashion no-nos Meaghan Isaacs, GA They're in every tabloid magazine. The photos of men and women with titles like ‘this week's fashion victims' or ‘somebody call the fashion police!' We've all been guilty at one point or another, and Algonquin students are fessing up to their most mortifying fashion no-no's. "The worst one ever in the history of fashion is crocs" said first-year public relations student Nicole Reid. Has Reid committed any fashion crimes in her lifetime? "The stretchy pants with elastics at the foot," she confessed. "Winter boots on warm days," said another PR student, Christina Stefanski, adding that sweaters tied around the waist are another grave mistake. It also seems that most people can't resist putting on those acid-washed jeans when they've come back into fashion, or being too lazy to take off their socks when they slip on the sandals. "One piece tracksuits...it came back last summer," shuddered Fulya Ozkul, an Algonquin advertising grad who works in the fashion section at a downtown bookstore. As students, we tend to emulate the stars we see on the big screen, forgetting it's easier for celebrities to pull off styles than the average Joe. Everyone can remember 90210 and trying to recreate Donna and Kelly's poufy-haired, high-waist, elastic jeaned look. But it was ‘in' then, right? "If you were an ‘80s child you were set up to be embarrassed," said Ozkul of the ‘80s styles kids had to endure. In the words of legendary designer Yves St. Laurent, "Fashion fades but style is eternal." Perhaps this should be kept in mind when bell-bottoms make yet another comeback. |
